Breathing the World’s Greatest Beauty in San Miguel de Allende

IMPORTANT: This blog post is highly useful for you guys who’s planning a visit for 2-3 days.

It’s finally time to leave Guadalajara, such a great place! But by the time I see San Miguel de Allende, everything changed. BEST PLACE I have ever been in my life. I feel it a lot in my head; my eyes are sparking every time I see something new there. Weird feelings, but true. The bus ride was 5.5 hours though, considering that both cities are more than 300km away.

  • Central de Autobuses (first day starts here)

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Central+de+Autobuses/@20.9543136,-103.1750839,8z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x842b504b93bcd443:0x4846d1db21616b73!8m2!3d20.9146055!4d-100.7589466

That time, I chose to use ETN Autobuses because it has the cheapest ticket, I paid 688.50 pesos online, sometimes they have special discounts there. Plus, the bus is super convenient, I even get a meal and a drink with it. Highly recommended!!

As a pure backpacker with a deep philosophy of “buying the cheapest”, bus (or even getting a free ride;)) will always the best idea. Bam! Just 8 pesos to downtown, come on!! I’ll get that sh”t.

  • La Catrina Hostel and Breakfast

https://www.google.com/maps/place/La+Catrina+Hostel+and+Breakfast/@20.9151811,-100.7434457,16z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x726c223ac9493297!8m2!3d20.9192545!4d-100.7420406

Bags off and ready to go! To be honest, best hostel I’ve ever stayed. A well-written review alert! Priority is the price though; I paid 120 pesos for 1 night on a weekday and 150 pesos on the weekend. How cheap?? And breakfast is (damn) included. They have 4 types of cereals, some jams with bread, coffee, and bananas. Can’t complain with that!!

That time I chose a room with 6 bunk beds (all female), and they gave me a full set of bed sheet and pillowcase. Check-in was fast, I gave my passport to one of the reception, Armando (he’s so nice!!). Then, stored my bag for a bit in the locker (just by the reception) looking that check-in time is 3pm.

  • Mercado de Artesanias

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Artisan+market/@20.9151811,-100.7434457,16z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x71ebd2c30389475b!8m2!3d20.9174205!4d-100.7417938

Being hands-free is great. I started walking the alley that leads to the artisan market. They sell so many natural jewels (which I’m dying for), handmade bags, clothing, hats, till’ food! It’s not that big though; I stopped there for my fruit-stop. Always try to balance my diet even though I’m on holiday.

I literally came on the right time of the year; it was just 4 days before El día de los muertos. The locals were selling so many sweets with different shapes. Mostly are the faces of catrinas, you’ll see! Don’t forget to grab some cempasuchil or marigolds (the most important symbol; it’s an orange flower) to show your awareness;) People also buy candles in the purpose of lightening the graves of their family.

Just a little stop though, look!

The most iconic part of San Miguel de Allende, this parish was reconstructed during the year 1880-1890. The style is definitely Medieval-European. Honestly, I do feel like in Europe! And just by it, it’s the Allende Garden (Jardín Allende), beautiful!

They explain the history of Señor Allende in the old times super well!!! Surprisingly, San Miguel de Allende was actually a part of New Spain back in the days. Learning histories of countries are one of my interests, too actually. Sadly, my logic regarding history is very low (HAHHA!).

  • Centro Cultural Ignacio Ramírez El Nigromate

Thankfully the tourist help center recommended me to come here. Muchas gracias! They have these cute chairs where you can read your book, grab some drinks, or chat with your loved ones. The atmosphere is so calming, they have some specialty classes too (like painting and ceramic molding). If I had more days, I would love to join!

  • Public Library of San Miguel de Allende

By the time I reached the entrance, I can see so many youngsters wandering around the place. They’re doing artworks, studies, and group works. Thankfully, I’m (partly and physically) not in school now (HA!). Bless the world so that I can just travel the world my whole life…

  • Limerick Pub

Time to grab some beer!! This bar is greatly recommended (from me and Google!!), plus the location is exactly at downtown!

Second Day begins here

It’s time for a short trip with a bus-tour. Honestly, I don’t wanna walk that far (like 45 minutes uphill) south, so I decided to take the bus tour that brings me there. Cheap though—120 pesos only I guess. The tour at 9am is completely in English and Spanish, note that!

Mornings with sweets? Hell yeah!! There’s this little girl and a lady there. We did some tasting with dedos de novia and crema de tumbagon, it way more interesting with a legend behind it. For the tumbagon, make sure to put your finger in the middle of it. Then, try to eat it halfway without breaking it.

Fun Fact! Based on the legend, the white sugar means purity that the person has in the heart. Regardless, breaking it while eating means they’re unfaithful.

I have no idea in the beginning why this is a historic spot. But after reading some facts, it was known that Juan de San Miguel’s dog went there to drink in a fountain here. Then, they found out that it was a fountain up there. By the 18th century, the Canal family decided to build bathrooms (lavaderos in Spanish) and a chapel, which is located in the highest spot of this place (where the fountain was).

  • Plaza de Toros

Here we go, a bullring! The sun was shining so bright, I can feel some sweat drops just under my purple felt shirt. I start to feel my heavy bag full of my camera kit. But the on-going-decorations encourage me to explore more. They’re apparently on construction though!

Skipping lunch but getting a muffin instead was a good idea. I sat on the green bench for a bit, the air was so fresh. Green leaves, footsteps, and the soft breeze made me feel so grateful about being alive (AND traveling).

Just one more area to visit for today! The northern part is a must-go for you guys who enjoy art. The 20-minute walk was worth it; I spotted some minimalist cafes, artisanal shops, and graffiti. A cute finding this time, I was chatting with this lady who’s drawing a building in front of her. She said it’s just a little hobby that she does while traveling. If you guys are curious, urbansketchers.org is where she post her work!!

“This is so fascinating”, I said.

I stepped my white Adidas on the entrance, it seem to be a small space. By the time I get inside, they have sooooooo many showrooms inside. Selling from jewelries to furniture. All of them are made aesthetically; I wish I had a house to decorate!! I bought a small wooden plate for my jewelry, so cuuutee.

  • Night Walk

After the sunset, I decided to walk for a while. It relaxes my mind…… Sometimes I just need my own time, doing absolutely nothing but looking at the dark sky. Plus, the cathedral is actually very pretty at night. My feet ache like A LOT, but that’s just another perk of traveling (damn I burn so much calories).

What excites you during your travel?

Tequila, a Land Full of Blue Agave

“When will I go to Tequila? I think I should just go alone”, I said couple months ago.

Traveling alone in Mexico has been a very crazy idea after those scary experiences I had here. But trying is the key, right? Or you will never know, EVER. So I just got this crazy idea to leave Nayarit and also my work. Literally I just wanna leave all those stress and sh*t I was facing at the moment. Turns out to be a brilliant idea.

Looking that I have only have 7 days out of ‘jail’, I planned my trip starting from Guadalajara-Tequila-San Miguel de Allende-Guanajuato-Nayarit. But on this blogpost, it’s time to share about my tequila experience. I booked my Tequila trip just in front of the Guadalajara Cathedral. Because of my “job” as a student, they gave me a 100 pesos discount, show your student card!! Will be even better if you guys book the tour a day prior, it gets full.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Guadalajara+Cathedral/@20.674739,-103.3490365,17z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x8428b1faa928f63f:0x25dcb2cdab10691a!8m2!3d20.677034!4d-103.346984

The next day I went at 9.45 in the morning, people are very on time surprisingly. We started walking to the bus parking area, just a 5–minute walk from the cathedral. The tour that I booked is the premium 9-hour tour, that’s why all the explanations are both in Spanish and English. Even though I speak Spanish, English is still easier for me. Back to the game! We all went for an hour ride to our first stop.

  1. Fortuna Cerveza Artesanal

We were welcomed with a lady which turns out to be our tour guide for this place. She explained so well how they make their greatest beer line. Starting on how they choose the grains, hops, and also the special formulas. Their machines are greatly clean, I can see that they are doing it with love and passion. Regardless, the packaging is also great, I can feel the spark of young creatives.

The staffs are also very friendly! They are very welcome to pictures.

DSC08180

After the tour and explanations, she brought us to the bar where we will get the beer tasting. This is what I’m waiting for!! Honestly, I haven’t drink since forever. AND, artisanal beers are actually my favorite. Let’s see how it goes. She started the explanation about IBU and ABV, very useful for a hospitality student like me. Remember, the tasting is not free, you have to pay an extra 100 pesos for it. But anyways, who will complain for $7 tasting for 6 baby glasses of great beer? Also, I did ask for a bonus, their Sake Ale which have a touch of sake taste.

We started from Canita Lager, California, AFortunada, Pale Ale, Indian Pale Ale (IPA), Stout, and lastly the great Sake Ale. Dear mother nature, thank you for all the plants you grant us!!! To be honest, AFortunada is the best ever for me, can’t even imagine them drinking it with Asian cuisines. After that, we left to the second spot.

  1. Tres Mujeres Tequila (Three Lady Tequila)

Bless me from alcohol. Hahahah! After those lovely beers, we went to the real tequila trip. Our guide explained us how (only) blue agave can make a beverage called ‘tequila’. We can only use the blue agave which has a grown piña (pine) because it means that it’s ready to be used as the base of fermentation. This all information is very new. She also showed us how they make tequila in the old days, from extracting the liquid of the blue agave’s pine and the process of boiling it in a special room.

“After those days with tequila, from Shanghai to Mexico, I just knew this now?!”, I said.

Moving on, we started walking to the plantation, it’s not that huge though. I think this place is family-owned? But most importantly, it’s well maintained.

We tried 4 types of tequila, the blanco, reposado, añejo, and extra añejo. It was great, but I don’t think it’s the best tequila producer. Imagine going to Don Julio’s!? Daaaamn. We were very happy there, following some sentences before enjoying our baby tequila glasses. Then, we continued our journey to the buffet lunch spot (which I decided not to eat because I’m on budget!). Soooo, skip to:

  1. Tequila Town

We literally have 1 complete hour here, what can we even do with that?! I started walking to find a post card and a post office to send a post card back home. Tick, done! Then, I went to see some souvenir shops and start walking into the small streets. It’s indeed colorful, but it doesn’t catch my full interest.

created by dji camera

You can start looking at the Parroquia Santiago Apostol, the alleys, and then the plaza. Look at the town!! No es mi favorita (not my favorite). The tour ended there, the drive back to Guadalajara took us a little bit more than an hour. Greatly recommended though!

Tips on what to bring: a water bottle to dilute your alcohol content, some extra money for tasting and souvenirs.

Searching for Fresh Air in Mascota

Traveling alone in Mexico has been something very controversial for me. The feeling of not being safe sometimes scares me. But today, I just feel like I need my ultimate personal space (as I always do in Japan). I mean, as a women you should always be aware everywhere else in the world. So, I just started this trip in the morning, alone, myself and my red-blue Ben Davis backpack full of my camera kit. Of course, my new Mavic Air from my brother (love you), too.

“I am really going this time”, I said to myself a day before.

After having a little research about how to go there, I finally found the bus stop from Puerto Vallarta, it’s Parada De Camiones ATM Las Glorias;

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Parada+De+Camiones+ATM+Las+Glorias/@20.6348576,-105.2474731,14z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x48289efd411997f!8m2!3d20.6348576!4d-105.2299637

The bus schedule starts at 09:00, 12:30, and so on from Puerto Vallarta direct to Mascota. And going back, it starts at 15:30, 16:30, and 18:00 from Mascota back to Puerto Vallarta. Bus ticket is 165 pesos (around $8), and if you guys have your student card, 20 pesos discount! I waited for a bit and finally I stepped on that red-turquoise bus, sitting on the front seat (like all the time). I was wearing just a sleeveless top and a short jeans, the air started to get very fresh!! Thankfully, I am very tolerant to cold–I’m good! But for you guys out there, bring a jacket!

2 hours passed, I finally reached San Sebastián del Oeste for a toilet stop. One lady sold me a sandwich inside the bus that time, 25 pesos? Of course I’ll get one! Vamos! Another hour to Mascota, not bad (3 hours in total). Here we go now!

Just a 3- minute walk from the bus stop! You can start your journey with some cute souvenirs in your hand. By the time you enter the building, you can see some restaurants open with a very great atmosphere–very lovely. The sun was shining so bright through the roof, it was a wonderful day. Plus, I am a sucker for artesanal/crafts, another earring for my collection. Just look how cute that thing is!

They also got the outdoor part of it, always try to get things in a cheaper price! Speaking Spanish will help a lot. I bought a silver-coated necklace just for 100 pesos (like $4), that’s nothing!

  • Plaza Municipal

Just like other towns, they have the plaza where they have space to sit and a fountain! There are some government buildings around, though. Well, you can sit there for a bit and enjoy the moment:) Also, stop by Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores!

  • Museo Raúl Rodríguez

I start walking randomly to the place where they have more attractions to see and suddenly my eyes got locked to this place. Some people were outside chilling around and it seem to be a very cool museum. I stepped in the building, a dog started to welcome me, how cute! Then, people are actually having a tour here. I just joined them out of nowhere! Well another perk of traveling, knowing new people and learn how to get along with them!

Even, one of them gave us a full bag of soursop ice cream, beyond delicious…. The museum is basically a series of collections from some Mexicans who acted in Hollywood back in the days. Such a surprise that this museum is open just under reservation/touring. It’s private! Again, another surprise, I got along so well with the people from the tour and decided to continue the journey with them.

  • Los Yeyos, Dulces y Concervas

After a five-minute ride with the bus, we finally arrive here. It’s a candy shop where they produce everything from soursop (guanábana in Spanish), all natural. But of course, sugar!! They made so many types of sweets with different taste and shape.

I got so inspired to see people who are still doing something very traditional and homemade. You know that feeling when you know people are still willing to conserve their cultures? Highly appreciated! Not to forget, no preservatives!

  • Yerbabuena Malecón y Laguna

Unexpectedly, they are planning to go to places that I wanted to visit too. We had a 20-minute ride to another town named La Yerbabuena. We stopped by a lagoon and it’s indeed, pretty and tranquil. We spend a good few minutes there just looking at the calm water just before we started walking through the small alley on the way to the church.

  • Centro Magnetico

This is the HIGHLIGHT of the trip, people gotta come here. Basically they found this place around 5 years ago, there was something happening to this area (with the sun). Suddenly, they bless this place with a father and made it as a sacred place where people can release all their negative energy and ask for ‘light’ in their life.

DSC07753

The entrance

DSC07754

The inside

There are 3 pillars, two turquoise ones and one white ones. To begin with, you have to wear the minimum as you can so that you’re at a purest state of your body and mind. Make sure you open your shoes, socks, accessories, and all your things from your pocket. By the time you feel that you’re clear enough, step up to the stairs and get inside the circular zone. This is where the magnetic field will be the strongest, you will be surrounded with those 3 pillars. The person in charge will ‘bless’ you for a bit and you have to say your name to all those pillars. You will hear different levels of echo, I don’t know how this happened but it’s real.

Next, choose and face front to the pillar that you hear the biggest echo. By that time, just feel all your negative thoughts are going out from your fingertips. I feel sooooo light right after that. Wish for something that you really wanted, and believe on it. Honestly, it was a magical experience for me, I feel very positive right after it.

  • Templo Inconcluso de La Preciosa Sangre

Lunch checked, just one more place that I really have to go, the ruins of this church. Me and Tere (the friend that I met in the tour) walked for around 10 minutes from downtown to this place. Basically this ruin was from the 19th century, but the framework was not strong enough to be built as the whole building. So, we were just chilling inside, on the garden!

DSC07780

The day trip ended at 5 pm, we gotta catch up the sunset because driving in that lightless road will be dangerous by that time. I learned a lot today, I felt that as long as you’re a great person, people will come to you. Never fake your personality, just be the best version of who you are:) See you on the next one!

Tips on what to bring: a jacket, a water bottle, sunscreen.

Sailing Experience in Bahía de Banderas

First of all, I would love to say a huuuge thank you for my friend, Justin for letting me experience my first sailing trip in my whole life. Plus living in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is a very great idea because the marina is just on the side of the block. And running at this area is also super great, you got the beach, marina, and most importantly very big streets with smooth cement!

We started at 10am that day, bought some cold beers and snacks for the sail. Talking about that, we always buy our basic needs in small shops (tiendas in Spanish) near our house. This happened so much when you live in a small neighbourhood, just like me! Even, the prices are usually cheaper than big supermarkets.

This is the location of the marina, by the way!

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Marina+Riviera+Nayarit+at+La+Cruz/@20.7507862,-105.3807937,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x84214041c2551c2f:0x351d63d475922b!8m2!3d20.7507862!4d-105.378605

Stepping to the gate of the sail boats makes me feel so great. Finally I am doing something new! We put all our food and drinks inside the deck and we start sitting down near the steering wheel. The boat is semi-wooden, actually! You guys gotta see the pictures.

Afterwards, Justin gave us a briefing just to make sure we are all in the safest condition–he’s a great captain. I would love to recommend you his tour! It’s Bahia Sailing Tourshttps://www.bahiasailing.com/ Looking at how he’s doing all the railings and stuff, I start thinking how people sail with their boats crossing the oceans of the world. That will be quite tough (and scary??).

DSC06309

Look how convenient!

DSC06313

You can even sit on the tip of the boat

Sailing for the first time makes me feel relaxed. I feel that I just get away from all the crowds and just enjoy the most of this earth…. We saw dolphins and turtles, it was soooo amazing! Meeting new people is also fun, especially doing different things that you don’t usually do. That time, we sailed down south to Puerto Vallarta, it took hours because we really take our time to just enjoy the ocean breeze.

We even stop to go to the market in Puerto Vallarta to grab little groceries. My friends went with a water taxi! It was cool to see. By the time we wanted to sail back to the deck, the weather went so harsh….. There was a huge storm and our boat was tilted more than 45 degrees, that was so much fun!! People were so scared but I just feel that we’re experiencing something unique (but a bit dangerous though LOL)!! But anyways, we were all safe back in La Cruz–thank you so much Justin!

Tips on what to bring: sunscreen, sunglasses, swim suit, towel. See you on the next one!

San Sebastián del Oeste, a Homey Little Town

Another magic town on the list! I have been dreaming for the last 1 month to enjoy a little bit of fresh air. As you know Punta Mita; Nayarit area is still burning hot now, temperature varies from 25-30°C everyday. So for those of you who’s having a short holiday to Puerto Vallarta area, this ones for you. Going to San Sebastián del Oeste is just perfect for a day trip, or even a 2-day trip for you guys who wanted to have a more chill weekend in the fresh town.

That time, me and my friends drove from Puerto Vallarta very early in the morning, We started at 7 in the morning, allowing us to enjoy the sunrise on the way–pretty! The 3-hour drive was great actually, we passed by many breathtaking landscapes, from mountains to forests. And again, as a sleepy kid, I fell asleep because of the fresh wind going through the car window.

Brief history, San Sebastian is a town which were well known as their mining for silver, gold, and lead. It is found during the early Spanish colonial, in the Viceroyalty of New Spain period. Regarding the growth of this place, their population peaked up to 20,000 people but it remains around 5,000 nowadays. From the records that we have, it is mentioned that the mines start to close around 1910 because of the revolution.

As we begin our journey, we parked near a little shop where we can rent ATVs. The name of the place is Abarrotes Durán, the link is down below:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/20%C2%B045’42.4%22N+104%C2%B051’19.9%22W/@20.7625605,-104.8588867,17z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x8426b765352d8b4d:0x31d5a4dfad50b4bc!7e2!8m2!3d20.7617815!4d-104.8555394

We then rented two 2-seated ATV, the price was a great deal. I paid 700 pesos for 3 hours. Also, a huge reminder, don’t forget to bring your driving license if you wanna be the driver of the ATV! Well for me, I don’t need it because my friend Arturo is driving for me–he’s a crazy driver.

On the way to mud splashes

First stop will be the first break point! We went to some crazy tracks, splashed with mud and also water. But for sure, picture first!! Hahaha! We started from the village with locals around, then the mountain area. It was a very bad idea to use my white shirt, OMG!

There was one time that our ATV was about to flip away (like fly through the cliff), crazy times. My friend Andrea was even worst, her ATV was almost flipping to more than 3 times! Be careful people! About 50 minutes from the starting point, we finally touched down the first break point. There’s really nothing there, it’s just a signal tower and we decided to take a group picture!

DSC05520

Pay attention to the sign

The weather was a bit cloudy that day, but it was fresh! Imagine the smell of the forest, plus the mountainous breeze–never fail to make me calm! Afterwards, we endure back our body and soul to the track to La Bufa (the main observing deck). The drive was not that long, maybe only 20 minutes. But there, we have to park our ATVs and start a little 10-minute hike to the observing deck. I was having a very bad kit to hike, because I forgot to use my shoes!!

The hike was super easy, I survived! The fog was very strong that we cannot see anything:( We just chill there for a while, taking so much pictures, eat our snacks, and sit down on the rocks. Because there was not really a view to enjoy, we decided to move and continue our journey to a mine, Mina Santa Gertrudis.

DSC05540

It was quite a long drive, maybe 30 minutes? Mina Santa Gertrudis is a haunted silver mine where some kids (3 girls and some boys) in the depth of 80 metres. We walked through it, it’s cold…. Not long after, we decided to drive back because out 3 hours are almost out.

We were soon hungry after that 3-hour fun drive. My friend Andrea keeps telling me there’s a very nice restaurant in town. And this Italian restaurant is indeed SUPER legit. And thankfully, they were open too! Take note people, the name is: Montebello Restaurant (closed on Tue and Wed)

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Montebello+Restaurante/@20.7614106,-104.8532138,18z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xb07ee993d32f13f9!8m2!3d20.760661!4d-104.851967

And of course, I ordered the jamón serrano pizza! And look how they create the friendly and homey atmosphere of the place…. Super comfortable and great when you come with your family, friends, or your partner! Maybe grab a cup of wine when you take your loved ones here! I am so in love with this place<3

DSC05618

Just a perfect shot of our food

After a whole pan of pizza, we continued exploring the downtown. At first, we went to San Sebastián Mártir Church. The church is painted in light blue color. Not long after, we just walked back to the the plaza (Plaza Publica) to see some shops around.

DSC05479

We were in Calle Allende looking at this pretty shop, and of course I bought a postcard to send it home to Jakarta. We had a very wonderful time that day. I really can’t wait to go out with them again! See you on the next one:)

Tips on what to bring: hat, backpack, water, bug spray, UV protector, hiking shoes.

Beach Hike to Las Animas

Working 9.5 hours per day is quite tough to admit. But having my days off on weekends is great. Come on, just be grateful and don’t complain about life. Something better is waiting for ya’ll out there. Mornings are not really tough for me, it’s just part of my routine! But then, the sunrise time during this time of the year is still super late, around 7.40! But anyways, I finally arrive in Nuevo Vallarta to meet my friend, Esperanza.

DSC06078

The road from Puerto Vallarta down south east

DSC06082

The entrance to Boca de Tomatlan Village

She drove all the way south east passing Puerto Vallarta downtown. I literally just went to a deep sleep because of the fresh wind from the window. My hair flew back together with the wind, I just feel peaceful! After around 1.25 hours drive from Puerto Vallarta, we finally touch down our feet on Boca de Tomatlan, a little village I can say.

For people out there who don’t own a car or doesn’t rent any, you can also take a bus to Boca de Tomatlan! From Puerto Vallarta Old Town, you should take a bus from Basillo Badillo and Constitucion and get a bus which shows Mismaloya/Boca. If I’m not mistaken the bus color is orange!

Walking in my white Adidas ultra boost was amazing, I don’t even feel like walking! Also a little reminder, never forget to bring water, insect repellent, sunscreen, and snack! The starting point of the hike was clear, there’s a sign and you have to cross a bridge, crossing a river. Then, you have you pass some casitas (small houses) just around the community–super safe here! People are friendly and they always greet us along the way.

The beginning of the hike is just fine, the route is easy, just stairs and nothing is slippery–even the day before was raining. Not long after the hike, we found the first “break” point, you might feel dehydrated after a 30-minute walk, grab your liquid! And you’re back on the track. For those of you who wants to challenge yourself, jogging/running in this kind of track is super possible. It was already 10 am that time, we decided to continue before the sun stung our skin!

Next stop is Colomitos Beach (Playa de Colomitos), it’s a public beach–super pretty! Also, if you want to do snorkeling, bring your goggles or your snorkeling kit. The water is crystal clear, maybe you can spot 1 or 2 small boats going there–they’re the water taxis from Boca de Tomatlan. For us, we just chill a little while there–by means taking some pictures! It was already hot at that moment. Just half way to go to Las Animas–our final point.

DSC06140

Look how clear is the water

Warning! The route after Colomitos gets harder, but nothing to worry! Just wear your shoes back and control your balance. Additionally, the view is waaaaay more breathtaking. Get ready to be amazed! My local friend told me the “forest” route is almost done–can’t wait! After around 20 minutes, we started walking down the beach and the sand, way easier!! But then, we passed some huge rocks on the way, just be aware!

Not long after, we start passing by some boutique resorts (Hotelio Mio and Playa Caballo Resort). Damn, those resorts look very dreamy! Just check them out at booking.com! Just perfect for couples!! Just look at the tree houses, I wish I can stay there for holiday! Afterwards, we start walking again to the beach route, as we can already see Las Animas from distance.

From the colorful umbrellas, amount of people around the coast, the stalls, and the water taxis gathering that area, you can clearly see that you’re about to enter a little world out of nowhere! And look, I found this pug puppy, made my day already! As you enter Las animas, you can start looking to different food stalls. Servers in the restaurant will start to greet you and offer you different types of food and drink.

That time, me and my friends decided to try Mike’s Beach Club.

https://www.google.com.mx/maps/place/Mike’s+Beach+Club/@20.5071997,-105.3458629,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x84215c2492f565bd:0xffa146e3181efe3f!8m2!3d20.5071947!4d-105.3436742

I wasn’t that hungry in the beginning, but ordering a limonada (lemonade) is always a great idea! Hot weather and cold drinks? Who will ever say no! Hahah! After enjoying a little nap on one of the cabana, I decided to order a portion of marlin fish. Believe it or nor, it was THE BEST marlin plus tortas that I’ve ever eaten in my whole life! I will recommend it to everyone!!!

After chilling out for hours there, we can either hike back to Boca de Tomatlan (which takes another 2 hours back) or take the water taxi. And of course, water taxi was what we chose. It cost only 50 pesos for a 10 minute ride. Just great!! We finally arrive to the coast and decided to go back home.

Tips on what to bring: water, sunglasses, swimsuit, snorkeling kit, bug spray, sun block.

Enchanted by the Most Amazing, Lisbon

My visit to Lisbon was super short, but most importantly it become my most favourite city in my WHOLE life. I don’t think I can find a way to really explain it. Even by the time I reach the inter-connected bridge (25 de Abril Bridge) to Lisbon. Feels like home… My heart just melt down to the heart of the city. Have you ever felt the same to a place?

Arriving in the golden hour wasn’t an amazing decision, we could’ve enjoyed the sunset in one of the famous spot for sunset in Lisbon. But our drive from Madrid was quite far! Covering over 1200km in just 3 days, damn boy (poke to Diogo–he’s an amazing driver btw). Even though I’m just a co-pilot in the car, I can feel the fatigue on my whole body. BUT, as far as I travel with someone that I really enjoy spending time with, nothing matters (wait for my Faro blog!).

DSC09923 2

25 de Abril Bridge

Opening the car door on our final destination feels great. I can stretch all my back, legs, and also hip. Plus, feeling the fresh air under my white t-shirt. Well, we deserved a little rest before going to dinner!

Couple hours later, we dressed up to go to a pretty sushi restaurant in Palacio Chiado. I put on my seatbelt, and ready to go! The weather was still cold that time (mid March!). I put on my vintage orange outer wear and laced up my white Adidas shoes. Bam! I opened the window of that car, looking at every corner of the city. Old, friendly, everything was just there. My mind was feeling so calm.

DSC09939 2

The vibe in the restaurant

“I feel so weird, how can I fall in love so hard to a place?”, I said.

We waited for a little while because the restaurant was greatly packed with people. But no worries, beer here we start! The chandelier, old paintings on the wall, and the warm vibe of the place is put together super well. Damn, Lisbon. How can you create this places??? It was a great talk with the family. Because of my curiosity, we decided to try one of the best original egg tart of Portugal, Manteigaria.

For you guys who are wondering it’s here;

This spot! https://www.google.com/maps/place/Manteigaria+-+Portuguese+custard+pies+factory/@38.7107598,-9.1462536,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0xd19347fb4271673:0xe8af7b569be2615f!8m2!3d38.7107556!4d-9.1440596

By the time I got here, it was almost sunset, the ray of light and the breeze were crazy beautiful. We went to a book store (Ler Devagar) before heading for dinner. I just can’t stop being amazed, this place suits me so much. All the friendly people, chill weather, and also the feeling that I’ve never had about a place. The bookstore is super well structured, look!

Here’s the Google maps link btw!

The feeling of being amused let me forget about my hunger. But still, it’s dinner time. Can’t let the gastric juice excess in my tummy. And honestly, the pizza was incredibly made. Best pizza of my life, even though pizza is something that I’m not a fan of. And guys, PLEASE try pizza with arugula, it’s beyond!

The amazing pizza place is Amesadolx, Ld. Here’s the Google Maps direction!

Road Trippin’ to Madrid

I can’t frickin’ wait for this trip. Mid term exams were sort of f*cked (sorry for my language but it is). But at least it’s vacay time! I woke up looking out of my window, the sun was reflecting the yellowish color to the trees. Amazing! My purple Kipling luggage is ready for the 600km trip to Madrid. I put on my Stussy shirt and a black jogger, ready to go!

It was around 12 o’clock in the afternoon, we started our journey to Madrid. Driving somewhere this far is such an intriguing experience, and technically Diogo is driving cause I can’t drive manual car (oops sorry little boy!). I deeply feel that whenever you travel with someone, you will feel a lot closer to them. Sharing small stories and experiences are so much fun. I can’t even stop laughing and smiling when we’re just having small talks in the car.

“Ugh, I’m getting grumpy now… Let’s stop by and eat lunch!”, I said.

I can feel that was the most delicious lunch I’ve ever eaten for couple of weeks in the past. That feeling when you’re super hungry and you can eat everything! We bought a baguette, a pack of salami (my favourite!!) and cheese. The sun was super hot that day, the oil in the salami literally melt on the car’s deck (taste a lot better!). Plus the songs that we were playing, our lunch was amazing!!

We continued our journey, still hundreds of kilometres away. We played a bunch of party songs, also Brazilian songs! We’re feeling it, it’s been the longest time that we haven’t been to a great party. Marbella got nice parties, but what matters is the company that you have! Somehow, FABRIK popped out from Diogo’s mind. We just hope that it’s open that day.

After a 6.5-hour drive, we touched down Madrid. The city is old, my eyes grasped to dark colors now. Finally after 2.5 months here in Spain, I can really feel the #spainvibe because Marbella is super artificial. We parked the car just few blocks away from our Airbnb, took our luggage and followed Google Maps. We’re lost for almost an hour, walked so far until the city centre. Cold, fun, and pissed off at the same time! But we finally made it and we decided to leave to FABRIK on the last train. Thankfully we reached it;)

And surprise! There’s no taxi at all when we reached Humanes, and it’s super cold and windy. We looked at each other and we just laugh (literally). Those breeze just immersed into our clothes, shoot:( Suddenly, I got an idea. Why don’t we just run until we get warm? 2.5km running and jogging was actually super fun. Look!

Entering FABRIK was quite a problem. I didn’t bring my passport, but thankfully they let me in. My very first techno party!!

The sun starts to peek out from the window, we didn’t party that hard. Extremely tired after those long drive from Marbella. The weather was great in the morning! Just look at the carnival that happened just a couple of minutes walk from the apartment, I can smell creativity!!

We didn’t stay for long there because we have plans already.  As we walked through the old streets, we realised that we need to get coffee for a bit. I really can’t live without it. I ordered coffee with cream, taste so unique, but still I prefer regular Americano! We were  just wishing that the sun will come out, but it turns our not. Huftt.

Those art with caramel

Churros time just by San Miguel Market

We decided to go on a full walking tour that day. We wanted to feel how the street vibe, plus enjoying the musics by talented musicians just around every corner of a monument. I will never forget the feeling of that, those violin, harp, or even guitar…. We went to Plaza de Mayor, Royal Palace of Madrid, and Temple of Debod.

“I just wanna sit here for a longer time”, I said.

DSC09856

Unfortunately Temple of Debod was under construction

Even though it’s super cloudy that day, we still had a lot of fun. Doesn’t even matter how bad the weather is, as long as you surround yourself with positivity, everything will be great. I feel super grateful to have the chance to have a road trip like this. Again, don’t forget to be happy! That what matters in life:)

Tulip Wonderland: Keukenhof

It was finally Thursday, 12.30 p.m. which means time to get ready to go to the airport. This Netherlands trip is just out of no where, literally. Just a week and a half before it I called my long lost high school friend, Natasia. Some people mention that we’re quite similar, especially our height is just incomparable. That made me remember of my senior year graduation day though, I was just standing behind her because we’re arranged based on height.

“Hmm, should I just go there? I’m feeling it”, I said.

Deciding on going was not hard at all. I’ve always wanted to visit her, ever since I went away for university in Shanghai, China. I feel so grateful that my parents can send me here to Spain, I got splashed with culture and hospitality of this Mediterranean country. Thanks mom, dad! I digress. Anyways, I booked my ticket and just wait for the week to be done. Gotta skip Friday, for sure!

My luggage is nicely packed and ready to go. The airport is a 45-minute drive from Marbella though, obrigado Diogo! Thankfully I checked in online already, no more lines for me! The 3-hour flight feels so long, can’t even sleep idk why. That’s why I doodled on this tissue paper! Just some some small pictures of my Madrid-Portugal trip.

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

Tissue paper and blue pen = art piece LOL.

“Welkom bij Amsterdam” it was written everywhere in Schipol Airport.

Having no single clue what are they talking (damn language barrier) about is not the best, but it’s part of traveling.  Gotta learn and be smarter each day! I can still remember vividly the feeling of meeting her that day, feels great. It was almost dark when I came, so we decided to go back to Den Haag–where she live. Because of the uncontrollable hunger, we stopped by a friet place. As Dutch’s favourite sauce, we took the big fat fries with ‘patatje oorlog’ sauce (mix of peanut satay sauce, mayo, and onions). Never thought the large portion is a huge ass.

DSC00112

We can’t finish them in the end….

The sun start to rise at around 6.30, I can feel it through the interstice of the window. But the time when we both woke up, it starts to get cloudy. But adventure can be done anytime, right? We went out of the house and we start walking to the station. As Natasia always does, she really want me to try something new (she know me well;)) Here you go, harring with minced union! Amazing!

DSC00130

Well we don’t look similar now

After the train to Lisse and direct bus, we finally arrive in Keukenhof, hoping that most of the tulips bloomed already. And yes, they are! I got to show you guys this, we just lay down on the grass for the sake of pictures. But no regret, as usual.

Walking through the garden took some time, it is indeed so wide. The tulips varies in different colors and shapes. Not only tulips, we also passed by a water fountain. We sat there for a bit, listening to the water splash soothes me.

Just before the exit, I bought fresh strawberries just because I need snack! They offered me whip cream on top, but gotta be healthy peeps!

After spending couple of hours there, we went back to Amsterdam for another city tour. Wait for the next blog for that;)

From Mountains to Beaches

First of all, thank you so much Marbella for the amazing weather you have. I have been enjoying it so much, but it’s a cold winter they said. Not for me though! After several days walking back and fourth to school and also the supermarket–El Corte Inglés (for you guys living in Marbella for sure you know this place), I just feel that I’m super done with all this long walks. Well, I enjoyed it but then it’s also dangerous. There are no road lights at all when it goes dark, like WHY *double chin face*.

But then coincidently, I met this super cute guy at school. He looks like a high school student, I just cannot (HAHAH!!). We get along together and he really wants to bring me to this place in Istán–a town near Marbella. He drives, which is good! Obrigado, Diogo! I was amazed for the whole ride, the view was stunning! And also note that we went to a curly roads with slopes through the mountain.

This is Diogo

Having a kid driving for me is cool

The Drive

Those curly roads, I’m a little bit dizzy after that!

“Wow, look at that!!”, I said.

It was the only sentence I used during the way. After about 15 minutes, we finally reach the cool spot. Once I opened the car door, the breeze got into my knit sweater. With all those green trees, I can even smell the fresh green leaves there. Feelin’ inspired to be honest. It’s been the longest time having that much space in my life. Japan made me feel small and confined.

I started to span my arms to the blue sky, and let all the negativity banish itself. We sat there for quite a while, looking to the far-mountain talking about life and be inspired. Also, there’s a lake just in front of the mountain. Too good!

Just a day after that, Diogo brought be to Victor’s Beach to have a chill walk in the afternoon. Just a 5-minute ride from school! Hearing the splashing waves and shrieking birds made me feel like home–as you guys know I’m from Indonesia, beach are everywhere! I wish I can bath myself with the salty water, but it’s still too cold. Let’s wait until it gets warmer! I’ll keep you guys posted for that;)

“We should run along this beach other times!”, said Diogo.

We passed through some ports there, along with fancy restaurants and bars. Such a great place to unwind stress… Especially with Marbella’s majestic sunset just above the horizon. We stayed for quite a while, just enjoying a typical Sunday afternoon. Also, it was so funny that we play tickle-each-other just by the coast and I just throw myself to the grey-brown sand. I just can’t stop laughing!!
